FAQs

Crypto Pixels is a mutable NFT collection where each pixel in the 1000x1000 canvas is an NFT. Crypto Pixels can be minted one by one or in batches - all done in one transaction to decrease gas fees ;-). Your Crypto Pixels are then ENTIRELY stored in the Blockchain (no IPFS) and can be traded in OpenSea.

"Mutable" relates to the fact that the Crypto Pixels colors can be changed by the owner. Therefore, if someone wants to expand their realty, they can purchase other users' Crypto Pixels and change their colors.

To generate a Crypto Pixel, start by clicking at some coordinate in the canvas. This will open a zoom-in of that region where the middle pixel is the clicked location. Then, select the pixels and colors you want to be your Crypto Pixels and click the button "Mint Crypto Pixels".

Yes, there is! Just go the the actions menu and select "Crypto Pixels on Goerli TestNet". There you can mint and change colors using TestNet crypto without any worries.

Each Crypto Pixel costs 0.00065 eth in the Ethereum Mainnet blockchain and 1 MATIC in the Polygon blockchain.

We believe that as the community grows, single pixels will hold strong value based on other users wanting to generate larger content that involve that single Crypto Pixel.

Just click "Show my pixels", change the color of the Crypto Pixels you want, and click the button "Change Color of Crypto Pixels". The RGB color properties of the Crypto Pixels chosen will then be stored in the Blockchain. Note that there is a small maintenance fee of 0.000065 eth to change the color of each Crypto Pixel in the Ethereum Mainnet blockchain and 0.1 MATIC in the Polygon blockchain.

The website is designed such that this situation rarely happens. However, it can happen if while you are in the zoom-in box, somebody mints a pixel in that region that you also selected before you click "Mint Crypto Pixels". But worry not young Crypto Padawan. The not available Crypto Pixels will be simply skipped and the eth stored in the smart contract. This value can then be withdrawn by clicking the "Actions" dropdown button and selecting "Withdraw skipped pixels balance".

Yes, each Crypto Pixel has its unique coordinates in the canvas. Owning that Crypto Pixel gives you rights to that location to choose the Crypto Pixel color.

We believe that the crucial information should be saved in the Blockchain such as the Crypto Pixel coordinate and the RGB color model properties. In this way, the canvas can be easily displayed on other websites without the need for a server. In OpenSea, this was achieved by displaying the SVG code of the pixel image instead of an IPFS link.

Yes, you can! We prepared a minimal code to fill the canvas based on events emitted in the blockchain. Access the code with this link: Minimal code to display Crypto Pixels Canvas. Alternatively, you can also just access the minimal website here.

Yes! The Polygon smart contract be seen at polygonscan and the Ethereum smart contract can be seen at etherscan.

Crypto Pixels was conceived and created by the Crypto Diesel NFT team: an entomologist turned artist, and an engineer turned web developer.

Acknowledgments

Crypto Pixels wouldn't be possible without the help of some of the web3 paladins of teaching. Specifically, we would like to thank Hashlips (Daniel) and the Moralis channel for the incredible content on web3 development. We also learned a lot from the smart contracts of the Nouns project and extend a special thanks to the creators.
